With the onset of even cooler weather, it’s time for us to return to The Retreat Hotel, Nicholson Street, Abbotsford. We’ll be back there on Tuesday evenings from now on.
You can find us upstairs from 6pm for Beginners (free) and 6:30 for regulars ($10 honorarium).
AND the other BIG NEWS is that the Yarra YUkers have been invited to play at an informal ukulele picnic on Saturday afternoon, 20 March. Along with the Melbourne Ukulele Community (from 2pm), we’ll enjoy an hour and a half of strum-alongs and YY will perform some of our recent songs (from 2:45). Thereafter we can all stroll up to the Chalice Church forecourt where MUK (from 4pm) will perform a set of Klassic MUK numbers before a special ‘Klub MUF’ evening of ukulele at 303.
It’s been a year between gigs and this will be a really nice low-pressure way to shake off the hiatus.
Look on the MUSIC page for a .zip file of the sheets for set that Yarra YUkers will play. Come along to The Retreat on the next few Tuesday nights to learn some of the songs. Half of them are simple strumalongs with one or two or three chords, or simple circle songs where you play the same groove throughout. Others will be led by the seasoned YY crew and are engaging arrangements.
Of course, COVID arrangements apply. Bring a mask, wash your hands, register at the door, smile, enjoy yourself.
