‘Great Big Ukes’ is Harry Harrison and Betty France.
Both have associations with the famous Melbourne Ukulele Kollective, Betty’s going right back to the start and Harry since 2010. Betty also organises and plays in various other groups – from festival marching brass bands to the ‘Thin White Ukes’ who celebrate David Bowie’s ouvre with ukulele arrangements. She also teaches uke in neighbourhood houses in the northern suburbs.
Harry teaches uke workshops from Yinnar in Gippsland to Ballarat, including regular classes with Laneway Learning from St Kilda through the CBD to Northcote. He is studying the 3-year James Hill Ukulele Initiative hosted by The Sum Of The Parts (Music) up in Newcastle every November.
